INTERNATIONAL NUTRITION FOUNDATION

The International Nutrition Foundation (INF) was founded in 1985 to mobilize support for training, research, communication and policy related to food and nutrition in developing countries. It collaboration steadily expanded beyond its initial partner, the United Nations University. Presently the INF works closely with UNU, FAO, WHO, WFP, UNICEF, IAEA other UN agencies, several bilateral agencies and non-governmental organizations and selected companies that share INF's concerns for public nutrition in developing countries and those in economic and social transitions.

Mission Statement
The INF brings key nutrition issues to the attention of those with national and international responsibilities for policies and resource allocation and promotes capacity building related to research, policy development and program implementation. It facilitates activities that bridge and shorten the nutrition research -- policy -- program cycle.

Vision
The INF works toward a future where the quantity and quality of food consumed does not constrain the achievement of full genetic potential of any individual or the economic and social progress of developing countries.

Principles
In support of this mission, the INF adheres to the following principles and orientations:
• Encourages development of a strong science base in support of effective research, policy and applied programs.
• Focuses on underserved communities and vulnerable groups.
• Works with people of all beliefs, races and national origins.
• Uses a participatory, accountable and transparent governance structure.
• Considers Human Rights orientations in addressing food and nutrition issues.

Strategic Approach

The strategic approach of the INF has the following framework:
• Sees the United Nations University and the International Union of Nutrition Scientists as key strategic partners with shared vision, mission and values.
• Works with relevant UN Agencies, international, bilateral agencies, policy oriented non-governmental organizations and foundations and private companies.
• Actively compiles, disseminates and promotes evidence-based information on food, nutrition and health for those working in and with developing countries. It publishes and subsidizes subscriptions for the Food and Nutrition Bulletin of the United Nations University, manages the Iron Deficiency Project Advisory Service and undertakes others information/communication activities.
• Mobilizes and manages funds for project leaders and investigators obtained from a variety of funding sources.
• Seeks to expand its activities in a sustainable manner by attracting capital funds to support its mission over the long term.
