What We Do

INF projects involve capacity development related to nutrition research, policy development and program implementation in developing countries by addressing three key areas:

Fellowships
Institutional Capacity Development

The INF works with the United Nations University (UNU) and the International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) as a key strategic partner to build the capacity of developing country institutions in the areas of food and nutrition.

The INF achieves this through the INF Fellowship Program, the Center for Studies of Sensory Impairment, Aging and Metabolism (CeSSIAM), the Food and Nutrition Bulletin (FNB), and the Iron Deficiency Project Advisory Service (IDPAS).

Publications
Dissemination of Information on Nutrition Research and Policy

The INF actively disseminates the latest developments in nutrition research and policy through the Food and Nutrition Bulletin (FNB), the Iron Deficiency Project Advisory Service (IDPAS), the Journal of Food Composition and Analysis (JFCA), and in-house publications that have a particular focus on field-based methods.

Research
Mobilization and Management of Research and Policy

With support from a variety of funding sources, the INF mobilizes, manages, and conducts research on key issues in food and nutrition in developing countries.

It achieves this through a high-profile advisory service for formulation of national nutrition policy as well as research activities on global cereal fortification, including biofortified maize for developing countries. All projects comply with INF’s goal of enhancing local problem-solving capabilities.

INF brings nutrition issues to the attention of key policy makers through active participation in the Sub Committee on Nutrition (Working Group on Capacity Development and Micronutrients, publishing state-of-the-art policy analyses in the FNB, and organizing special sessions and symposia at key international meetings focusing on issues related to capacity development as well as select research issues
