About UsDr. Nevin Scrimshaw founded the International Nutrition Foundation in 1982 to mobilize support for training, research, communication and policy related to food and nutrition in developing countries. Dr. Scrimshaw saw the critical need for researchers and nutrition professionals in developing countries to access and implement state-of-the-art nutrition research. He believed that all researchers should have the opportunity to share scientific views and insights that accurately reflect the cultural, social and economic influences in developing countries. Initially partnering with the United Nations University, the INF's collaboration has steadily expanded to other agencies such as the International Union for Nutrition Sciences (IUNS), several UN and bilateral agencies, non governmental organizations, academic institutions in the developing and developed parts of the world as well as selected groups within the private sector that share INF's concerns for public nutrition in developing countries and those in economic and social transition. As President and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Scrimshaw lead the INF in fulfilling this mission by mobilizing support for training, research, communication and policy related to public health and nutrition in developing countries for over 28 years. In honor of Dr. Scrimshaw and his tireless contributions to international nutrition research, programming, and capacity building, the INF was renamed the "Nevin Scrimshaw International Nutrition Foundation" in October 2009 (official announcement).
